I have some pretty big goals. Especially for someone who is planning to quit their full-time job.
And especially for someone who never really follows through with smaller, more attainable goals. But there are so many people who don’t reach some goals, but never stop trying. And that is me. When I believe this strongly in something, I have to put forward my absolute best effort to achieve this goal.
Lifestyle Goals
I guess I talked about this a bit in my last blog. But I need to write it down specifically:
- God – When I am busy, my prayer and bible reading are the first things to suffer. Which is crazy, because that is when I need God to guide me, and I need the wisdom and teaching of the Bible to guide me through my busy days. This is a goal I can achieve no matter what I am doing, because God is always with me and I can pray anywhere and read my Bible on my phone if I want to. But my goal is to spend more quiet time in Bible reading and prayer every day. Intentionally schedule it into my day like I would work, or hiking, or anything else that I love to do and am intentional about making sure it gets done.
- Family – I need to spend more time with family. I have a teenage daughter at home that still needs her mom. I have a married daughter and 2 grandchildren who I want to maintain a close relationship with, that they love coming to my house regularly and that my daughter can feel she can bring them to my house when she has things to do. I have 2 sons who don’t really need me a lot, but I also want them to be able to drop in when they feel like it, and I am not trying to race home from work and then be exhausted when they are visiting. And last but not least, I want to be a great wife for my husband – I want to keep a calm home that is organized, have a warm meal on the table when he gets home from a long day at work, and support him in any way I can. We have a great marriage, thankfully, but these are things I would love to do better for him.
- Volunteering – I want to freely volunteer at church and other important organizations. So many good organizations rely on volunteers, and if my schedule is flexible enough, I want to spend time helping at church and other important organizations that help others. I definitely have a few in mind, ones that also align with my desire to spend more time outside as well!
- Friends and Outdoors – I have been so blessed with a group of friends that love the outdoors. We all have busy lives, but manage to carve out at least one day a month to get to the mountains or away for a weekend to recharge. I want to continue to spend time with them and even more time outdoors without sacrificing time with family. Now when we go out, often I work and then leave with my friends for a day or weekend, and that that means I really don’t see much of my family that week!
But Wait…There’s More!
Ok so I just listed some lifestyle goals that have to do with God and people in my life. That is most important to me, but that’s not all that is important!
We are currently living on an acreage, in an RV. I have no issues living in an RV, it has been almost 10 months and I still feel very comfortable in here. There is a large log home on this property that the owners live in.
Our big goal is to be able to buy this property within 5 years, preferable with no mortgage or a small, manageable mortgage. I want this property to stay in the family, and eventually, I want my Grandkids to grow up here. It needs a lot of cleaning up, and a lot of work, but it is a beautiful property that is such a gift to my soul.
So I can achieve my most important lifestyle goals by quitting my job, but I won’t be able to achieve my big material goal, which is to buy this property with no mortgage or a very low mortgage if I am not earning an income.
I Have a Plan
I have a few ideas floating in my head, but I will save that for the next blog. Some ideas involve working in a flexible part time job, and other idea’s involve working from home, on the computer.
We will discuss those next time!
Question:
In the meantime, how do you earn money and achieve your lifestyle goals? Any pointers for me?
